1. Adopt a healthy lifestyle
- Eat a balanced diet Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, E and omega-3 (fish, green vegetables, carrots, red fruit, nuts…).
- Drink enough water to avoid dry eyes.
- Avoid tobacco and alcoholwhich increase the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.
- Exercise regularly to improve blood circulation, including to the eyes.
2. Protect your eyes
- Wear sunglasses with appropriate UV protection (CE standard) to avoid retinal damage.
- Use protective eyewear for hazardous work or sports.
- Avoid rubbing your eyes to prevent infection.
- Wash your hands before touching your eyes or putting in contact lenses.
3. Reduce Eye Fatigue
- Take regular breaks by applying the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds.
- Reduce screen exposure time and use a blue-light filter.
- Adjust screen and room lighting to avoid reflections and eyestrain.
- Blink frequently to avoid dry eyes, especially in front of a screen.
4. See an ophthalmologist regularly
- Have your eyes checked every 1-2 years to detect vision disorders (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia) at an early stage.
- Monitor intraocular pressure to prevent glaucoma, especially after age 40.
- Seek prompt medical attention in the event of abnormal symptoms (blurred vision, pain, redness, black spots, light halos, etc.).
