How to apply eye drops correctly? 👁️💧
Instilling eye drops is an essential step in treating certain eye conditions (dryness, conjunctivitis, glaucoma…). Here’s a simple, effective guide to its proper application.
1. Preparation
✅ Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and dry with a clean towel.
✅ Shake bottle if instructed.
✅ Remove your contact lensesunless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
2. Instillation of Drops
- Tilt your head back slightly and look up.
- Gently pull the lower eyelid downwards to create a small pocket.
- Hold the bottle about 1-2 cm from the eye (without touching the eye with the tip to avoid contamination).
- Place a drop in the eyetargeting the inner corner or eyelid pocket.
- Gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes without blinking for the product to take effect.
- Press lightly on the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) to prevent the eye drops from flowing too quickly into the tear ducts.
3. After Application
✅ Wipe off excess product with a clean tissue.
✅ Close the bottle tightly and store in a cool, dry place.
✅ Wait at least 5 minutes before using another eye drop if you are using more than one.
✅ If you wear contact lenses, wait 15 minutes before reinserting them.
4. Mistakes to avoid
❌ Do not touch the eye with the tip of the bottle to avoid contamination.
❌ Do not apply several drops at once one drop is enough.
❌ Do not share your eye drops with another person.
❌ Do not keep eye drops for more than one month after opening.unless otherwise stated on the package insert.
