I don’t want to wear contacts or glasses any more. What are my options?

If you no longer wish to wear contacts or glasses, there are a number of solutions available, depending on your age, correction and eye health. Here are the main options:

1. Refractive surgery (Laser)

Laser surgery can permanently correct vision and eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses. Several techniques are available:

LASIK Myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism are corrected by the most common, quick and painless procedure. Recovery is rapid.
PKR recommended for thin corneas, offers a similar result to LASIK but with slower recovery.
SMILE a more recent technique, without cutting the corneal flap, reducing the risk of dry eye.

📌 Conditions Must be over 20, have had stable correction for at least 1 year, and have a sufficiently thick cornea.

2. Intraocular implants

If laser treatment is not possible (strong correction, cornea too thin), implants may be considered:

Phakic implants addition of a lens inside the eye without removing the crystalline lens, reversible and recommended for young patients.
Lens implant (clear lens surgery) replaces the natural crystalline lens with an artificial one, often recommended after age 45.

📌 Advantage Definitive correction, suitable for severe myopia or hyperopia.

3. Orthokeratology (night lenses)

A non-surgical technique that involves wearing special special rigid lenses at night to temporarily reshape the cornea and see clearly without glasses or contacts during the day.

📌 Ideal for Moderate myopes and those not wishing to undergo surgery.

Which solution to choose?

🔹 Laser (LASIK, PKR, SMILE) → If you have a suitable cornea and stable correction.
🔹 Intraocular implants → If your correction is very strong or if laser is not possible.
🔹 Orthokeratology → If you wish to avoid surgery.

💡 An ophthalmological check-up is essential to determine the best option for you.
