What to do about dry eyes?

Dry eyes are a common condition caused by insufficient tear production or poor tear quality. It can lead to irritation, redness and a gritty feeling in the eyes. Here are solutions to relieve and prevent this problem.

1. Use Artificial Tears

Moisturizing eye drops preservative-free (for frequent use) to lubricate the eye.
Eye gels or ointments (preferably in the evening) for prolonged hydration.

2. Adopt Good Habits

Blink frequentlyespecially in front of a screen.
Take visual breaks every 20 minutes (20-20-20 rule: every 20 min, look 6 meters away for 20 sec).
Avoid air conditioning and excessive heating which dry out the air.
Drink enough water to promote tear production.

3. Modify your Environment

🔹 Humidify the air with a humidifier or a bowl of water near the heater.
🔹 Wear protective eyewear (against wind, pollution, blue light).
🔹 Avoid cigarette smokewhich aggravates dry eyes.

4. Adapting your diet

🍊 Eat omega-3 (fatty fish, walnuts, linseed oil) to improve tear quality.
🥕 Choose foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes).

5. Consult an ophthalmologist if :

⚠️ Drought persists despite treatments.
⚠️ You experience pain, blurred vision or increased sensitivity to light.
⚠️ You wear contact lenses and experience permanent discomfort.

A precise diagnosis enables us to choose the best treatment (specific eye drops, treatment of underlying causes such as dry eye syndrome). 😊👁️
